In this week's Friday Buzz email, we present to you a delicious Tequila Mint Hot Chocolate cocktail. This cocktail is perfect for a chilly night when you are ready to snuggle up and indulge!
(Originally published 12/9/22)
⅛ cup Cocoa Powder
½ tbsp. sugar
1.5 cups milk of choice (coconut milk used)
¼ cup Semisweet chocolate chips
¼ cup milk chocolate chips
1 tsp. peppermint extract
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch sea salt
1 oz. Anejo Tequila
2 dashes Julep bitters (optional)
Whipped cream for garnish
Mint leaves
Combine cocoa powder, sugar, milk, semisweet chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips in a saucepan.
Heat over medium heat until steaming (about 5 minutes), stirring gently; do not boil. Remove from heat, use a silicone spatula to scrape the edges of the pan ensuring chocolate is thoroughly dissolved. The hot chocolate will be thick.
Stir in peppermint extract, pinch of cinnamon, and pinch of sea salt.
In your Hybrid Cocktail Glass, pour 1 oz. anejo tequila and add bitters. Pour 4 oz. hot chocolate into the glass.
Garnish with whipped cream and mint leaves.
Elevated Options:
Blanco Tequila may be used in place of anejo. This recipe would also be delicious with bourbon or without spirits for those choosing not to imbibe.
Other Notes:
This is a delicious, winter-time dessert cocktail and can be prepped a day ahead of a gathering. Store in the refrigerator and heat up a few minutes before guests arrive. Add the tequila and bitters separately so that those choosing not to imbibe due to health conditions, pregnancy, etc. can also enjoy. This hot chocolate recipe is a big hit with kids too!
