The Elevated Craft Team
This week we are stirring up a Dragon Fruit Mule. A mule is a versatile cocktail with a short and simple ingredient list. By switching the base spirit and substituting a regular sugar syrup for a flavored one, you can easily change the flavor profile of this cocktail. While dragon fruit doesn’t have a strong flavor, it lends a beautiful vibrant color to this cocktail.
2 ½ oz. Preferred Base Spirit, we used Anejo Tequila
¾ oz. Lime Juice
½ oz. Dragon fruit Syrup - recipe below
3 ½ oz. Ginger Beer, we used Betty Buzz
2 Dashes Lime & Sea Salt Bitters (or a dash of Saline Solution)
Lime Wheel or Lime Ribbon for garnish
Combine your base spirit with lime juice and dragon fruit syrup in your Hybrid Cocktail Glass over crushed ice.
Stir and top with Ginger Beer.
Garnish with a lime wheel.
Dragon Fruit Syrup:
Combine 1 cup water and 1.5 cups sugar with 1 cup of fresh or frozen pink dragon fruit in a saucepan over medium-low heat until all the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally. Strain out solids and store the syrup in a sealable container in the refrigerator.
Drink Notes:
This cocktail is so versatile it works with vodka, gin, bourbon, tequila, and rum as a base spirit.
The ginger beer makes a big difference, and all brands have different flavor. We chose Betty Buzz Ginger Beer because it is lower in sugar than most ginger beers with a strong ginger flavor. It is perfect for making a mule when you plan to use flavored syrup since it isn’t already overly sweet.
