The Greta Garbo Daiquiri is a glamorous Cuban twist on the classic rum cocktail. Named for Swedish-born Hollywood icon Greta Garbo, it starts with the familiar Daiquiri trio of rum, fresh lime, and sugar, then adds maraschino liqueur and a touch of absinthe. The result is bright and refreshing, with subtle sweetness and an herbal, anise-scented finish.
The drink’s exact origins are a little hazy, but it was created in Cuba and named for the legendary silver-screen star. Its foundation, the classic Daiquiri, is generally traced to the town of Daiquirí, Cuba, around the turn of the 20th century and is often credited to American mining engineer Jennings Cox.
A little maraschino brings nuanced sweetness, while just a couple dashes of absinthe give this variation its distinctive character. Like its namesake, the Greta Garbo is elegant, enigmatic, and hard to forget.

2 oz. White Rum (We used Plantation 3 Stars)
1 oz. Lime Juice, freshly squeezed
½ oz. Simple Syrup
¼ oz. Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
1 tsp. Absinthe
Shake all ingredients in a Hybrid Cocktail Shaker with ice for about 15 seconds.
Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with star anise or ground nutmeg (optional).
