I may have told this story before, so forgive me if I am repeating myself. I was never much of an ice cream fan. Unlike most kids my age, I didn’t freak out when I heard the ice cream man coming or beg my parents to take me to Baskin Robbins. The rest of my family LOVED ice cream, however, so I was dragged to the shop at least once every weekend during the hot summer months. My mom would encourage me to taste all the flavors to see which one I liked best, yet none of the 31-flavor options appealed to me. Then I discovered Lemon Custard Ice Cream. A soft yellow-colored delight with the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Once I had that pink sample-spoon bite, I was hooked. My family was thrilled I had finally found my favorite flavor so we could all enjoy the weekend trip to the ice cream shop. Over the years, Baskin Robbins has phased out and brought back the Lemon Custard flavor, and I have branched out to Daiquiri Ice in its absence (see previous post about this one). Lemon Custard ice cream will always have a soft scoop space in my heart…and in my belly. Cheers. - Robin Seton Karides
