As a child of the 70’s, I grew up watching The Brady Bunch. Like many others, my favorite episodes are from season 4 when the Bradys are in Hawaii. In the iconic three-episode arc, Bobby Brady finds a wooden tiki idol in the dirt at his father’s construction site. Thinking it brings good luck, he puts it on a string to wear. Throughout the episodes, Bobby, Peter, Greg, Jan, and Alice all experience very BAD luck while wearing the cursed idol. It is Brady camp at its finest with the infamous ominous riff playing before something bad happens. The final episode finds the Brady Boys attempting to break the curse by returning the tiki idol to the Tiki Cave. There they encounter a mad archeologist played by Vincent Price. That’s all I’ll say so as not to spoil the fun for those who haven’t seen it yet. I always wanted to find my own tiki idol, if only to make the ominous sound while wearing it. Kind of like JD and Turk did on Scrubs (another brilliant sitcom episode). The closest I came to finding one was at a gift shop on the Big Island while on a press trip with The Hubby. I gave that tiki idol to my Work Hubby…who then got a concussion hitting his head on a car door in the shop. Maybe there is something to the curse after all. Cheers!
