Tutu Rum Punch

Here's the "Grandparent of all rum drinks."

That was the quote on the menu under this cocktail, haha. This was on the menu at the Denver location of Trader Vic’s inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Vic changed the name from The Outrigger to Trader Vic’s in 1962 and this recipe popped up on menus around 1968. It’s a boozy drink with hints of clove, ginger along with pineapple and citrus. The recipe calls for dark rum. There’s plenty to choose from but I went with a dark Jamaican rum. I’m sure this would taste great with an aged Jamaican, Demerara or any aged rum really. I feel it’s a good template to experiment with whatever dark rums you have on hand. I made a few small spec changes* since I felt it was a little tart and need more sweet for my taste. Any way you shake it up, it’ll be a good one to sip on this Tiki Tuesday. - Steve Cervantes
