Hoodwinked

A tropical twist with a smoky edge.

If you’re a fan of the Jungle Bird, this one’s about to earn a spot in your regular rotation. Hoodwinked is a mezcal-based riff that swaps rum for smoke and Campari for Aperol, creating a cocktail that feels both familiar and completely new. Originally created by Devin Espinosa at the Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara, it’s the kind of drink that balances bold flavors without feeling heavy.

Mezcal brings that signature earthy smoke, while pineapple juice adds bright, tropical sweetness. Aperol leans into the bitters, tying everything together with a softer, citrusy edge. A squeeze of lemon keeps things fresh, and just a touch of simple syrup rounds it all out. The result is smooth, balanced, and dangerously easy to sip, like a vacation in a glass with just enough edge to keep things interesting.
