A New Orleans original, the Sazerac is a spirit forward cocktail that best highlights the superior effects of gum syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz brandy
  • ¼ oz Demerara Gum Syrup
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 Barspoon absinthe

Directions

  1. Rinse a chilled hybrid cocktail glass with absinthe.
  2. Add remaining ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.
  3. Stir 20 seconds and strain into the rinsed glass.
  4. Express a lemon peel and garnish.
  5. Garnish with lemon peel.
